January 31 is the date for our congregation to participate in the UU-wide reading and discussion of Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson.  The book describes the journey of a young African-American lawyer who goes to Alabama to work on behalf of poor and wrongly-condemned victims of an unfair justice system.  It's also one of the most engrossing UUA Common Read books in recent years.  The  service is for everyone to participate, so please come with or without the book!  Luanne Buchanan and Susan Zachos will lead the service.

Julia Ray and Jeffery Peavy, both talented local clothing designers and sewing gurus, hope to share inventive ways clothing can be fashioned by re-using resources available.   Come to be inspired by creative and practical insights into eco fashion and be reminded to have "respect for the inter-dependent web of all existence of which we are a part."

It is a very appropriate time of year to view and be inspired by the Ware Lecture from the General Assembly this past summer.  Dr. Cornell West's talk will be the focus of the January 17 service...and you will find it enriching to your life.  In fact, it might inspire you to help with the University of Mississippi service day, which will be happening the following day.  Please join us at this special service on Martin Luther King weekend.  ​Jeffery Peavy will be the Service Leader.
